ANTI-DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT — MANAGERS COURSE

I. EMPLOYER LIABILITY FOR DISCRIMINATORY CONDUCT OF EMPLOYEE, AGENT, OR INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR §8-107

In this section of the course we will cover both discriminatory conduct and the liability of such conduct. This includes discrimination by an independent contractor, employee, or agent you’ve hired.

II. REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION; SHOWING UNDUE HARDSHIP

We will go over “reasonable accommodation”,  which means giving accommodation to an employee’s or prospective employee’s religious observance or practice, as to not cause undue hardship.

III. EXERCISES & DISCUSSION

During this part of the course we will have exercises covering discriminatory conduct as well as a discussion.

IV. Q & A SESSION

To conclude the course, we’ll have a question & answer session and further resources available.

This course is part of the larger course Anti-Discrimination in Employment. This course offers a more in-depth explanation of the New York City Human Rights Law. Here are some of the topics we will be covering:

  • What is discrimination? — We’ll go over the official definition of discrimination.
  • Types of discrimination prohibited by NYCHRL — There are many different types of discrimination, but we will mostly focus on discrimination in employment.
  • Covered Entity §8-102 — Here we will cover the definitions of terms used in this law, including “employer”, “family”, etc.
  • Rights and Legal Process under NYCHRL §8-109 — Here we will cover written complaints, legal proceedings, and next steps.
