More than 90% of all sales are still conducted through traditional retailing and not e-commerce. In developing countries, the numbers are even stacked up against e-commerce. Most developing countries still have a conservative look at business and have a fast-growing population that does not properly understand e-commerce. This has led to the scenario whereby e-commerce is almost non-existent. However, there is another side of e-commerce that has been growing over the past couple of years. There is no doubt that in more developed economies e-commerce has become more popular to the extent of chopping a large part of the market from traditional retailing.

E-commerce might take a long time in order to grow to the extent where it is a serious threat to traditional commerce. In order for e-commerce to grow faster, the sector needs to increase sales. The only way for e-commerce to increase sales is to invent new technology such as quick delivery techniques. People will always prefer traditional commerce if they are purchasing something whilst they are in a hurry. Traditional commerce allows them to run in a store and buy something instantly.

There are a lot of reasons why e-commerce is not very popular. One of the primary reasons is lack of trust and interaction between the e-commerce business owner and the customer. It is hard to trust someone you can’t shake hands with. This is true, especially in developing countries.
